CHANDIGARH, INDIA — September 23, 2026 — Pinaka Mediaworks and Rolling Frames Entertainment today officially announced the 1,000-day milestone of the landmark Hindi feature film Rabb Di Awaaz, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Ojaswwee Sharma.

Released on December 28, 2023, Rabb Di Awaaz made cinematic history as India’s first multi-inclusive Hindi feature film created from day one with built-in Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpretation for hearing-impaired audiences and Audio Descriptions (AD) in Hindi for visually impaired viewers.

Unlike traditional releases that append subtitles or sign language long after distribution, Rabb Di Awaaz integrated accessibility into its original master production plan. The film establishes its impact across four core pillars: Cinema for Education, Cinema for Inclusion, Cinema for All, and Cinema for Accessibility.

Produced in the Chandigarh-Tricity region, the film achieved several key industry firsts:

I. Simultaneous Day-1 Release: Released on December 28, 2023, with built-in Indian Sign Language and Hindi Audio Description.

II. Authentic Casting: It is the only recorded Indian feature film in recent decades where the lead role is played by a 100% visually impaired actor.

III. Record Sign Language Participation: Features the largest group of deaf signers performing ISL interpretation within an Indian feature film, produced with support from the SHE Foundation and guided by trainers affiliated with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

IV. Pan-India & International Screening Footprint: Over 1,000 days, screenings have been held across Punjab, Chandigarh (UT), Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Jharkhand,
Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Srinagar (Kashmir), alongside international screenings in California (USA), Leicester (UK), Dhaka (Bangladesh), and Janakpur (Nepal).

V. Wide Grassroots Screenings Across Types of Institutions: Screenings have spanned Schools, Universities, Colleges, Special Institutes, Child Care Institutions, National Institutes of Importance, Institutes of Science Education and Research, Institutes of Medical & Research, Skill Development & Training Centers, NGOs, Film Festivals, Summits, Theatres, and Premieres.

VI. Guiding National Policy: Recognizing its path-breaking model, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) invited the makers twice as expert resource persons to official accessibility meetings in New Delhi and Chandigarh in August 2024 to help shape national public exhibition standards.

VII. 100% Free Public Access: All three versions of the film (Standard, ISL, and Audio Described) are available free of cost. Over 300 public screenings across schools, colleges, special needs institutions, and community centers worldwide have been conducted on a completely complimentary basis.

Rabb Di Awaaz screened at the United Nations Information Centre / United Nations India Headquarters in New Delhi in May 2025 and the Government of Goa’s International Purple Fest 2025.

Over its 1,000-day journey, Rabb Di Awaaz and its key creators have earned widespread critical acclaim, national honors, and global festival recognitions. On the international stage, the film won Best Film on Disability at the Remember the Future – Cannes World Film Festival, served as the Opening Feature Film at the Sikhlens: Sikh Arts & Film Festival at The Frida Cinema in California, and earned official selections at the Big Syn International Film Festival in London, the Cinemaking International Film Festival in Dhaka, and the Janakpur International Film Festival in Nepal.

Nationally, the film won competitive awards and jury mentions at the We Care Film Festival (in association with the United Nations in India and UNESCO), Best Screenplay at the 7th Bioscope Global Film Festival in Odisha, and the Excellence in
India’s First Multi-Inclusive Film honor from the Media Federation of India. It was also showcased at key regional and national platforms including the International Purple Fest Goa, Purple Jallosh in Maharashtra, the 14th CMS Lucknow International Children’s Film Festival, the International Film Festival Srinagar, and film festivals across Haryana, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

The film’s lead actor, Shiv Kumar Sharma, has been recognized with multiple prestigious accolades, including the 24th CavinKare ABILITY Mastery Award, the NAB Sudha Verma Young Achiever Award 2025 at NAB New Delhi, the Saksham Seva Award 2024, and the Udaan – Honouring Unsung Hero Award on the 77th Republic Day by Rotary Chandigarh University Central. Furthermore, director Ojaswwee Sharma and the production team received special honors from SAKSHAM on National Divyangjan Empowerment Day, the DLF Awards, Rotary District 3080 (“Hope Creator”), One Beat College for Medical Sciences, Radio Udaan, and Chandigarh Life Magazine for pioneering cinematic accessibility in India.

The makers of Rabb Di Awaaz in association with Rotary International District 3080 have announced an extensive public and institutional screening tour for October 2026. The screening tour will span Chandigarh (UT), Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, bringing accessible film shows and educational interactions to regional schools, colleges, and civic organizations.

Completing its 1,000-day journey on September 23, the milestone arrives on the International Day of Sign Languages. To mark this occasion, the makers have issued a call to action encouraging institutions, educators, and film lovers to stream and experience the complete feature film in Indian Sign Language (ISL), available free to the public.
